Recycling and baling for boxes past reuse

When boxes are too worn, wet or damaged to reuse, the fiber can usually still be recycled into new paper and board. Tell us what you have and a partner supplier follows up about collection.

Reuse first, then recycle

Reusing a sound box avoids making a new one. Recycling is the next best option for boxes that can't be reused: the fiber is pulped and made into new board. Mention the condition of your boxes and a supplier can tell you which route fits.

What helps recycling

  • Keep corrugated dry and separate from other waste.
  • Remove plastic film, liners, foam and food residue where you can.
  • Waxed or heavily coated boxes are often not accepted; ask first.
  • Baled corrugated is easier to move than loose boxes if you have the volume.

For how recovered corrugated becomes new board, read the corrugated recycling process.
